Did you know that Reiki is recognized as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), by the National Institute of Health (NIH) under the National Cancer Institute (NCI)?
A CAM therapy, by definition, means that the therapy is used alongside of conventional medicine and not in place of it, thereby enhancing and supporting medical treatments.
History of Reiki
Japanese healing practice developed by Dr. Mikao Usui (1865-1926), though Reiki’s roots trace back 2500 years. Reiki is not a religion, but does have a spiritual foundation in supporting one to achieve harmony and balance for their highest good. Reiki is all loving, all knowing, and does no harm.
Therapy involves hands on touch, Ki or life force energy to strengthen the body’s ability to heal on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
Reiki elicits the relaxation response of the body, creating a cascade of peacefulness and calmness.
How is Reiki Performed?
During a Reiki session you lay comfortably on a massage table fully clothed, listening to tranquil music as the Reiki practitioner places their hands in a sequence of hand positions from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet.
